Maybelline Matte Metallics Lipstick Review and Swatches

  Maybelline Matte Metallic Lipstick Review
                             & Swatches!

So I've had these lipsticks for over a week now and I've worn them on and off every day that week.
I honestly didn't think I'd like them or that they'd even be wearable for daytime. Especially on a woman in her mid twenties or even older. I mean when you think of metallic lips don't you see something very shiny and juvenile? Not something a classy and mature woman would be wearing right? Maybe that's just me.

I figured these would be fun for a girls night, halloween or maybe even date night but more of a club or party lipstick which in all honesty would be useless to me.
These were my preconceived notions about this lipstick if I'm honest.

So i received the colors 970 Molten Bronze and 978 Smoked Silver. I wasn't excited about either of these colors but i was really laughing at the Smoked Silver. I mean i like a good greige as much as the next pale girl but silver metallic lipstick? Come on! You're just asking for me to make fun of it lol.
My very favorite greige Bite Beauty in Thistle.

So i tried the bronze on first and i was really surprised at how pretty and wearable it was. It had more of a red undertone with a brown tint that made it almost a deep neutral. The metallic they talked about was so entirely wearable I've been wearing it during the day! A metallic you can wear during the day by an adult? Leave it to maybelline to make a crazy teen trend wearable. I'm a high end makeup snob to the max but the couple all time fav drugstore items that are staples in my makeup kit are Maybelline. They're just a fantastic brand that does it's best to maintain quality at an affordable price.

So back to the lipstick. Let's talk about the Smoked Silver. It had a deep purple smoke to it. It really wasny silver at all except for the metallic shimmer. Other than that it was all things smokey. It was a deep grey, purple, deep silver all blended into a beautiful and wearable smokey gray color. It was somehow neutral and wearable on my pale skin during the day despite my description. Admittedly, I'm a bit daring when it comes to my lipstick choices for the daytime but it's never anything too crazy so i don't think it's too farfetched that others could see it that way too.

So basically the colors I've tried are totally wearable. As you can see from the swatches below they aren't all that wearable
But there's definitely something for everyone and every style and almost every occasion in this collection.

Now let's get onto the quality. I don't expect this to be like a liquid lipstick. Bullets are different in that getting a precise line without a lip liner or lip brush isn't going to happen and they are just generally a different texture.
It was pigmented while still being wearable. I did notice some sheer spots which meant there was a good amount of patchyness going on with both. More so with the Molten color i think. It wasn't as easy as blending out to get rid of this. It was almost impossible to get rid of the patchy look completely but i did manage to make it look decent and mostly uniform with a little work.

With shimmer and frost and different pigmentation you do run into this issue so it's not too surprising.
It is very pigmented and shimmery. Almost frosty but not quite. It is metallic but it's wearable.
The colors all have depth to them and i love that. It almost brings that molten metallicized metal look to life within the color depth. It is beautiful.
The lasting power is about 3 to 4 hours with normal lady like eating with a fork and drinking with a straw. Less with heavy meals. More if you don't eat and drink or kiss.
It applies creamy and soft but light and not suffocating at all. It's very easy to apply and the shape and size of the bullet is perfect to fit the contours of the lips.
It can be put on with a lip brush easily.

The packaging is very maybelline lipstick of today. It's got that almost square top that's colored. This time a smokey green. The actual part that holds the bullet is silver so it is very fall and wintery colored. The color and collection sticker is placed on the bottom on the same circle sticker as usual.
Overall it snaps shut securely and i would be comfortable travelling with this. Its a "self sharpening" bullet like most bullet lipsticks so no special directions on using it.
It's all very idiot proof. It's easy to find in almost any chain store that carries drugstore makeup. The price wont break the bank and you can usually get them on sale or find a coupon for an even better deal.

Overall i think the collection and colors are very unique and wearable and i do recommend them.

I received these products free for testing purposes but was not otherwise paid for my review. All opinions expressed here are my own.
