TARTE LIP PAINT IN RAVE REVIEW AND LIP SWATCHES & how to prevent lipstick on teeth!

                     TARTE LIP PAINT IN RAVE!
                Review, skin swatch, lip swatches,
                      & look with makeup look!

         BACKGROUND INFO ON MY OPINION!

I have recently become a Lipstick lover the last couple of months. To be honest I loved the look but the possibilities scared the crap out of me!

Every time I wore lipsticks of the day (always drugstore, always with a glossy sheen) they ended up getting on everything! Drinks, my nails when I bit them, food (yuck), etc. It was disgusting. It also felt like it was never dry. You might have noticed that your makeup everywhere else on your face doesn't stay wet, damp or any adjective that doesn't mean completely dry. So I'm sure you can understand why I felt so uncomfortable having a wet feeling product on my face at all times. Not just on my face. Oh no! This happens to be a part of my face that I use quite often people (get your mind out of the gutter lol)! When I am a nail biter as previously mentioned, I have to eat, drink, talk, etc. A wet product doesn't sound too appealing.

The fear was constant every time I tried to wear it. I was constantly wiping around my lips for fear it had spread, looking in the mirror to see if it had streaked onto my face, had faded in some spots and not others, gotten on my teeth, gotten on a random part of my face when I accidentally touched my mouth and then my face, etc. Not to mention kissing, which I love to do, was impossible. Try making out with wet lipstick. He ends up with clown lips but yours are soooo much worse! It's not a pretty sight at all! I heard so many men avoided women when they were wearing lipstick for fear of.it staining their clothes/ skin. So for the prospects of what could happen why would I want that drama? Unless you're a rich lady sitting around poo pooing everything and not moving around or doing anything for yourself why would you want that stress?
The struggle was real y'all!

It may look pretty in pictures but that was the extent of it. Wearing it was a calamity! I didn't want any part of it! Honestly, it sucked because I am a huge makeup lover but it wasn't too huge of a deal because I focus on my eyes as my focal point instead of my lips so it's worked out fine because I wanted dark eye makeup and nude lips. It was the fashion don't ya know? Aww the early 2000s. My fashion hey day!
 Pretty in theory!

These looks see what we all strived for so gloss was a great alternative for a naked/ nude lip.

Anyway I was the lip gloss queen. It lasted but a few minutes and wore off so it wasnt an all day problem. Perfect for the moment.

Now there's a great trend that's been going on for a couple years. Matte lips. I resisted it because I never cared about lip trends before but it was so huge and looked so pretty I could no longer avoid that nagging feeling that had long been in the back of my mind that I too really wanted to paint my lips and expand my makeup repertoire.

I fell in love and my collection is steadily growing.
One day!
NOW ONTO THE TARTE LIP PAINT:
I have made it a point not to buy repeats of colors I have. Dupes if you will. Why keep wasting money on the same eyeshadow colors, lipstick colors, highlighter colors, etc. Just because it's the latest hyped up thing. I promise you will get a lot more use out of your collection and love it a hell of a lot more if you don't have a bunch of the same colors that you bought over and over and over again.
Because of that I wanted a color I didn't own but I really needed to try this Tarte lip paint. I'd heard so many great things and knew that there were some die hard Tarte lip paint fans out there.

So I went to Sephora. Gotta get my points y'all. I was on a mission. I wanted a Ciate Lip Velvet Matte Lipstick (my new all time fav! Even better than kvd with a beautiful velvet look but that's for another review). And a Tarte Lip Paint. They didn't carry anything but the Ciate nail polish so onto the lip paint I was.

The actual look from this lipstick. This set of 3 minis is $22. They are normally 20. I would have bought this since they did have it in store but I own the middle color and the other two weren't unique so I didn't purchase but you should if you haven't tried these!
Immediately I was drawn to the colors I always am. Rosey Mauve colors with depth, but no I won't allow myself to do what's comfortable when it comes to these prices. Yea i admit this lipstick isn't quite as expensive as other makeup products at Sephora but it does add up quick and if I end up loving it I don't want to end up with a $300 worth of different shades of the same color. Because of this I took a long look at the collection and it's colors. I remember seeing beautiful brown lips on instagram lately. Always on olive skinned girls but hey, maybe it could be just as alluring on my pale ass skin.
Just some of the colors not including the nudeist collection and a few from the original. I believe Race is from the nudeist collection.
I chose the color Rave after trying a few different red shades and one true deep brown and went with that. It is described as a Greige on Sephoras website, a gray- beige, buy I disagree.

To me Rave is the type of color that isn't grey and ashy but instead a bit of a rose brown. Very beautiful with a lot of depth. I was in a hurry so I didn't try it on. Just swatched my hand and picked my fav and checked out.

I was so excited to wear this but had to wait until the next morning because it was pretty much bed time at this point anyway.

The next morning I started doing my makeup super early as usual. After I've finished everything I start thinking about my finishing touch. The "piece de resistance" the lipstick.

Then my new Lip Paint popped right into my mind. I leapt over to my purse swiftly. Grabbed the thick, firm leather of my Dooney & Bourke and unsnapped it. Looking inside with bated breath I look around my small to medium sized purse. This purse is small compared to previous purses but I manage to get just as much stuff in there as any other purse I'd ever had. This does not make it easy to find anything.

Fortunately this lipstick was still in it's pretty matte box with metallic stripes. The color of the box was the same color as the lipstick so it didn't take but a minute to find it.
Not the actual box of rave but you see how they match the lipstick color.
This box is not easy to open but I finally get it. I take it out and the short and fat tube is a little anticlimactic. I know the amount isn't really small. It's just got a shorter tube than my KVD Everlasting Lipstick or my Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick, but it's also wider and I know that so it's ok. Opening it up it's got the same doe foot applicator that almost every liquid lipstick and lip gloss has attatched to the cap. The point is great for lining and the wider angled edge is great for even application on the entire lip area.

It is a bit of thick and creamy formula but again that's pretty much how it's advertised I guess.
I apply this lipstick. The color is a beautiful a medium brown with a dusty rose undertone. Beautiful. Exactly as I expected which is always good.

My only problem with this lipstick is that it never dried down completely. It gave a creamy matte look but transferred like nothing I'd ever seen on a high end matte liquid lipstick. I was pretty disappointed because I had been so excited after hearing about all the die hard lip paint fans but no it's just not something I was at all happy with.

I'm going to give it another shot but if it's not something I can get past then I'm going to return and exchange. It's important we return or exchange things we aren't happy with when we can because it's extremely wasteful to keep things laying around that you never intend to use. It causes clutter and unhappiness. If something doesn't make you happy and you don't need it then don't buy it. Don't buy things just to buy them. Make sure you love them and will use them. This will make your space much more positive, save you money and keep you excited about your things. It's not right to just leave makeup or anything laying around for years until it goes bad or becomes obsolete just so you can have your stuff. Especially when someone else would be happy to have it and would love to use it.

Returning items is also important to commerce because it let's companies know we aren't happy with a particular product. If we didn't do that, especially to really hyped up products, than those products may become iconic bestsellers and more people will be disappointed because we didn't let the company know so they could reformulate, update or discontinue. This was more important before the internet because now this can be done more efficiently with online reviews, email and phone complaints, social media comments, etc. But returning products is still important.

Pros for this product are that it's affordable. At $20 for a good sized tube and amount of product it's decently priced compared to other high end lipsticks.

Next there's at least 19 colors not including their nude theme of this collection. That's a lot of colors to choose from so that's great. There's lots of different shades of the same colors like a lot of lipstick collections with a few unique oddballs thrown in and even though I don't particularly like that I can see how it might be helpful to those of different skin tones who like a certain color but need a bit of a different shade.

To be honest this is advertised as a creamy matte lip paint so take that as you will but I personally can't get past the wet feeling and easy transfer and possible negative side effects of wet makeup.
                      BOTTOM LINE:

I don't believe I will be repurchasing from this line for the reasons I stated in the background info in the beginning. Admittedly I've only tried this one color so I may exchange it for another and try that but if it ends up as the same formula which is highly likely I will not be owning anything from this line now or ever. It was that bad in my opinion. I probably will just exchange it for a Lipstick formula I do love and try a different color on in store just to update this blog post with but I don't think their will be anything different to say.

Have you tried anything from the Tarte Lip Paint Collection? What do you think?

Wet lipstick on the teeth prevention method gpod for just applied matte lipstick too. Do as pictured with your finger. Close your mouth around as such and slowly pull out. Wipe finger and you're ready ladies and gents!
